Mozilla, the Foundation behind Firefox and Thunderbird, has announced their intent to support Windows XP and Vista until September 2017.
March 2017 will be the date at which users of Windows XP and Vista will be moved automatically to Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR). Mozilla will then assess the user-base and determine the viability of further support after September 2017.
The Foundation recommends users of the older Windows operating systems to upgrade to newer versions actively supported by Microsoft to avoid the dangers of the lack of security updates and known exploits. Enterprises should also consider September 2017 as the support end date, according to Mozilla’s blog post.
