Instagram is a free application that lets users capture photos and videos and share them on popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, in October 2010. Instagram quickly gained popularity, attracting more than 100 million active users by the time it was acquired by Facebook in April of 2012, for $1 billion in cash and stock.
